A Jewel of a Summer

England has basked under sunny skies and we have had a proper summer. For once fetes, parties and picnics have been enjoyed rather than postponed. It is ironic that I should be writing so cheerfully about this summer when I have spent a considerable part of it being ill. Being made to rest however, has meant that I have had the peace and the time to savour this season.

I have rested in my garden rather than worked in it and I have appreciated it as never before.
This whole summer seems to have been lit up with glowing, happy memories, nearly as bright as those I recall from my childhood.

Mum and I visited Mottifont Rose Gardens, luscious with blooms

The Larmer Tree Festival simply glowed with colour and light-

We have had days by the sea

And walks in the countryside

From breezy bright mornings

To the calm of a beautiful sunset

My days have been filled with light.
On holiday in Provence we discovered a place where the fields were purple

and houses had shutters blue as the sky

And as for the markets...

I could have spent my days quite happily shopping for supper!

I have paddled in green swift-flowing rivers

And swam in the warm aquamarine seas

Back in England we had a special family gathering, graced by strawberries and more sunshine, my Mother's special family trifle and most importantly- the newest member of our family

I shall remember this summer and its colours, I hope it lasts in my memory as the one that lived up to our expectations. Who knows, though- next year it may be even more beautiful?

Before I finish, I have to add one last picture-

The jewel in the crown of David's Summer!

Just to explain...

When a Shingle is single
There’s an unpleasant tingle
But as it increases
Pain cuts you to pieces
The vile rash is conducive
To becoming reclusive
All this being said...
I’m staying in bed!

My apologies to all for my lack of presence here. I haven't written, replied or visited for simply ages!
I had a bad flare up of my Fibromyalgia and now am battling with an attack of shingles.
I hope to be back in the land of the living soon...

Past Perfect

It has been a wonderful weekend- full of friendship, good humour and sunshine. We were so lucky with the weather. The Vintage Nostalgia Show is held in a field, deep in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, so fine weather makes one heck of a difference!
To transport you to back to a time when there was leisure to stroll with your loved one, wear a frilly petticoat, watch Punch and Judy and gasp over the most glamourous of motors, I've turned all black and white...

When the stand was set up to my liking-

And the first customers arrived

We could relax

Later in the day we enjoyed some old-fashioned past-times

Punch and Judy

scrumptious icecreams

climbing trees (well, maybe we only watched this one!)

And of course... the cars... I'm not really an enthusiast  but who could resist these beauties?

We kept ourselves busy.  My sister-in-law, Olga and I minded the stall

Sam had his drawing

and his photography

Emily sang beautifully-

David kept the accounts up-to-date!

And took charge of opening the wine.

We had such good fun!

I can't wait for next year's show.

With thanks to Sam for the use of his very cool photographs.

Vintage Nostalgia

I've been even more hectic than usual as this coming weekend brings one of my favourite events. The Vintage Nostalgia Show at Stockton Park in Wiltshire.
The Vintage Nostalgia Show only started last year and is a wonderful weekend full of classic cars, enticing stalls, great food and music and beautiful people all dressed in their vintage finery!
I have been packing and sorting madly and everywhere is full of teetering piles of stock!

Emily is singing,

David and Sam are dressing up ( photo to follow of Sam dressed up!)

My lovely sister-in -law is down for a visit, so it looks set to be a wonderful weekend.
Last year we had hot sunshine, so I have my fingers crossed it will be the same this year.

I'm all prepared to dress in full vintage glamour ...I've been practising my hair and make-up and trying to diet so my waist looks good in a lovely, flowery 1950's dress-
I'm just so excited!

A woman's wish and a man's hopes...

It must be the Spring but I have woken feeling frivolous!
I have found this funny poem that David discovered and sent to me-

 Woman's Poem
Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong.
One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's gainfully employed,
When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.
Pulls out my chair and opens my door,
Massages my back and begs to do more.
Oh! Send me a man who'll make love to my mind,
Knows what to answer to 'how big is my behind?'
I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And always be my very best friend!

So I made up one in reply...

Man's Poem

 When I finally fall asleep
I pray for a woman who will keep
on thinking I’m handsome, perfect & strong
One that loves to listen long
When I rant on about ‘News of the Week'
And not care if to her I hardly speak
I pray that she’ll enjoy being employed
Ironing my shirts and not be annoyed
When I leave the dirty ones on the floor
But just pick them up and ask for more
Oh! Send me a woman who loves my dirty mind
and wears thongs to show her great behind
I pray she will love me  ‘til the very end
And even more than her best friend...

I hope this will amuse you too!

ps, I apologise for the photographic discrepancy- I'm ashamed to say that I don't actually own a thong...
