In Pursuit of Spring

Thaw

Over land speckled with snow half-thawed

The speculating rooks at their nests cawed

And saw from elm-tops, delicate as flower of grass

What we below could not see, Winter pass

This perfect short poem by my favourite poet Edward Thomas, seems to capture that subtle shift from one season to another.

Warm days, with the sun on our shoulders, buds bursting and the trees blossoming are on their way!

  1. I do hope so, Jane! I am freezing and wishing I were in Italy, where very soon it's going to get incredibly warm! I love your pictures and the general mood of your post. I specially like the short poem: it says it all!

Have a nice evening and keep hoping, because that's what we do: we wait for Spring and it never comes... then, we wait for Summer, have a few sunny days and the memory of those few days of sunny weather, keep us warm throughout the Winter season. It's a LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGG Winter!

    Have a nice evening!

  2. Absolutely beautiful pictures Jane. It's very chilly up here in Derbyshire, the old woodburner and Aga are working overtime! Please let's have some sunshine soon.

    1. Hi Jo,
I hate the cold so, I'm such a wimp, I seem to spend my days in dozens of layers of jumpers!
Have a god weekend, hope it's not too cold for your fair,
      Jane xx

  3. Like Edward Thomas I set out in a south-westerly direction yesterday; not in search of Spring but simply to have a vicious north-east wind at my back! Fine photos of this untrustworthy season.

    1. Hi Niki, I love to watch the seasons and try to decide on the day they 'change over'. I agree about the cold, it's that darned wind that's so trying!
Have a happy weekend too, Jane xx

  6. What a lovely poem Jane. We love watching the seasons change, this year, the change from winter to spring has felt so slow. It will change, I'm certain of that. I think it is on its way now....hopefully!

    1. Hello Liz, I think Edward Thomas is the most brilliant and subtle nature poet. And I also think that Spring is finally here! Jane xx
