When one Dream is deferred, another one blossoms

My hopes and plans for my great adventure have (for the moment) come to nothing. It was always a bit of a dream and everyday life and its responsibilities have proved stronger than a wisp of an idea. I have cried a lot but now I'm determined to make the most of the year ahead and still hope to have some wonderful, happy adventures.

It is the winter solstice tomorrow- my favourite of days. For now the year is turning and everyday will be reaching towards new light. Gently it will creep up upon us until one evening I will look at the clock and exclaim- " Goodness, it's still light!". Very soon I shall awake to a glimmer of dawn and first birdsong, not the blank black pall of a winter night. Tomorrow we shall light the fire and celebrate, as so many have done before.

For the moment, apart from the joy and excitement of Christmas, I have a little project which is making me very happy. I will not say any more about it now except give a little hint with these pictures...

In case I don't have the chance to write again-
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  1. And a Happy Christmas and New Year to you as well! The lengthening days will not immediately be obvious, of course; I always look forward to Valentines day - not because I'll get any cards but because the days really start to seem longer then.

  3. I love the solstice too - although I do enjoy the delights of winter ie christmas, firelight and cosiness, I am so looking forward to the longer days and spring...not long now...

  5. Hello Jane
I read excitedly about your planned trip in search of bookshop and was very excited at the prospect (so glad someone indicated Barter books) - there are still a few my way, packed to the ceiling and spilling over the floor. I miss my favourite one which closed some years ago now - I have written a post about it all but unsure if it 'fits' my blog but books (very specific ones) have been the only thing that I have earnestly, methodically collected over many years. I love my old books and I am looking at them now and thanking them for the pleasure that they have given me. I do hope that all comes good with your adventure - I really do.

    Best wishes
    Jenny

  7. I was sad to read this. I loved the piece in Pretty nostalgic you wrote and the idea of an epic journey to discover books was so magical to me. I was envious of your adventure - and inspired and willing you on. The books need you! I hope that you enjoyed a lovely Christmas and that 2014 will bring you much happiness and unexpected adventures. x
